I am a HUGE fan of yours, beginning with the introduction to your All Time Grand Champion Hall Of Famer comic The Sandman. Frankly, you intimidate me. The fact that your talent is so huge that you can make throwaway jokes (like the Critical Mass in Sandman) that I would be desperately holding onto to make a regular story out of is truly an astounding measure. As I work on Head Above Water, you and J.K. Rowling are among the books I pulled from my bookcase and hid because just looking at them paralyzed my work on the story in fear that I would never measure up.
I know that you are a huge Doctor Who fan. A friend of mine, during the heyday of Sandman, went to a Meet The Author luncheon with you, and she was wearing a Tom Baker scarf. You zeroed in on it, and you spent the whole hour with her geeking out.
So when rumors started circulating that you had been contacted about writing an episode of Doctor Who, I hemmed and hawed. I mean, from what I've seen, the new Who is very good, but I just haven't made it regular viewing. The only episode I kept in my collection is "Voyage Of The Damned." (Yeah, I'm biased, what of it?)
The SFX convention is giving out awards. Congratulations on the win for your pre-Battle For The Cowl story in Batman. Sorry you couldn't find a video quality that let you give an acceptance speech remotely, but on the bright side, it made you want to do something special for the fans, and so you let the cat out of the bag.
According to you yourself, you have written a Doctor Who episode to run in England sometime in 2011.
That's not the only reason I'm excited.
The episode, I understand, was supposed to be THIS year, but it got pushed out to do budgetary constraints.
Hmm...veddy veddy interesting.....
