Myriad patented a breast cancer gene.  Basically, no research could be done without their say-so and/or pay-off.

A group of concerned scientists challenged, saying the patent was unConstitutional.  I mean, it's genetics.  You can't patent a living thing.  What's more, it would stifle research, so the patent should be tossed for the Common Good.

The judge handed down his ruling.  In doing so, he made nearly ALL genetic patents invalid.

Whooooooooaaa, I saaaaaaaw the liiiiiiiiiiiiight....

Good. Meanwhile, now that Myriad has isolated a specific Breast Cancer Gene, research can take place to fix that particular problem. And hopefully they will find a fix quickly so as to save some bodacious ta-tas.
