Kermit And Piggy

"Spending Like A Drunken Sailor" Is Now Obsolete

(Hey, my dad was in the Navy, I'm allowed to use that expression.  Now you know where the swearing comes from.)

Here at Sine Timore, we try to be bipartisan in our ire.  We take potshots at everyone regardless of political affiliation.  Some of you no doubt remember the yux I had when Nancy Pelosi's bar tab for the past couple of years came to light.  Well, fair is fair, and it's now time for me to open up a can of lulz on the Republicans.  This never gets old.

Michael Steele is the chairman of the Republican National Committee.  He also has a porn star's name.  Which probably explains this:

"A February RNC trip to California, for example, included a $9,099 stop at the Beverly Hills Hotel, $6,596 dropped at the nearby Four Seasons, and $1,620.71 spent [update: the amount is actually $1,946.25] at Voyeur West Hollywood, a bondage-themed nightclub featuring topless women dancers imitating lesbian sex."

Now, this is pretty funny in its own right given how much the GOP likes to push its abstinence programs and pretend sex doesn't exist and just say no to sex and Jesus wouldn't approve and all that.  But strictly speaking, this is no worse than the R's that have been busted having covert gay sex.  So that's not what makes this lulz.  THIS is what makes it lulz:

"A 2009 spending spree has left the Republican National Committee (RNC) with its worst election-year cash flow this decade.

The largest GOP party committee has $8.7 million in the bank heading into an election year with 37 governors’ races, a dozen major Senate contests, dozens more in the House and an all-important redistricting cycle on the horizon.

Said one RNC official: “It is very troubling, and the thing is, most people don’t understand this. But it is really troubling.”

The RNC had $22.8 million in cash and no debt when Michael Steele was elected chairman at the end of January, but has since seen its cash on hand drop to less than $9 million at the end of November."

Whoever said "cheaper to rent" never met this guy.....

Swift Justice Needs To Be A Little Swifter

I'm sure some of you remember my post from the start of the year about Phoebe Prince, the 15-year-old girl from Ireland who came to America and was harassed by classmates until she took her own life.

I'm not sure if this qualifies as "better late than never," but the Massachusetts DA has just filed charges against a bunch of kids.  Three are facing delinquency charges, and six more are facing rape, assault, and other charges.  However, school officials who turn a blind eye to this bullshit and let the mean kids run free will not face any charges.  Isn't that happy.

Will this work?  I don't know.  On the one hand, a case like this is very tough to pull off if the kids get their stories straight.  All they have to do is put doubt in the mind of just one person on the jury (no way this will be a bench trial), the jury is hung, and they skate.  However, given that the kids were stupid enough to take their abuse to online forums like Fecesbook, the DA could score a conviction of at least a few of them if she plays her cards right.

I'm sure the DA means well, but there's a problem.  This will do NOTHING to stop the terror and abuse in that school.  The school officials know damn well what is going on and who's responsible, and they aren't interested in doing anything for whatever reason.

Once again, there are days I'm grateful I don't have kids.  Thinking some of these idiots would be responsible for their safety scares the life out of me.
