Test Run

So, clionona  has a meme on her board and some simple rules.  She gave me some test questions to see if I'd be comfortable playing, so in fairness, I'm going to answer the "test run" first and await the real questions.

First, the rules of the meme:

Leave a comment saying you want to play and:
❶ I'll respond by asking you five questions to satisfy my curiosity.
❷ Update your journal with the answers to your questions.
❸ Include this explanation and offer to ask other people questions.

So, with a tip of the hat, and a strapping on of the crash helmet, here we go:

1)  What is your ideal Saturday night?

It really depends on my mood.  For the most part, I like a Saturday night that involves something meaningful, not just something that kills time.  Whether it's playing Rock Band with mornblade  or going on a date or working on my writing or anything other than just doing nothing and letting time flow past me.  It's a psychological thing -- I always have to be doing something, usually creative or improving, whether learning something new or testing ideas or exploring my consciousness.  Something that makes the time worthwhile.  I'm open to most anything that does that.

2)  Do you believe in love at first sight? Ever felt it?

Yes, I do, I have, and I've regretted it.  You could say I've worked to break myself of the habit.  It is waaaaaaay too easy for hope to run away with me.  On the bright side, when the "love at first sight" is only on my part, I can laugh and move on instead of becoming despondent or thinking it's some rejection or proof of inadequacy on my part.  For the most part, it's a great feeling, but I keep it on a very short leash.

3)  Has a song ever brought you to tears? If so, what song?

Quite a few have, although I'm not going to list them all.  The first song I can recall that actually made me cry was "The Living Years" by Mike + The Mechanics.  My dad has never really been that thrilled with me, and the song about loss just hit me hard, because it was a bond I knew then and know now that I will never experience.  Then there's songs like Shooting Star by Bad Company, just the profound tragedy of it all.  Other songs are more a personal reflection of my spiritual journey, like Benediction by Susan Ashton ("Taking a road that I've never been down, doing the best I can.  I really believe I'm where I need to be now, tell me you understand.")  And some are just sappy romantic songs like Real Fine Place To Start by Sara Evans.

4)  What was your first job? Did you enjoy it?

My first job was clerking and servicing at a gas station run by a friend of the family.  I guess I did enjoy it, but for the wrong reasons.  He didn't get much business, so I was left alone for the most part.  No wonder the job (and the business) only lasted a few months.

5)  Beach or mountains? Why?

Beach.  Definitely.  Mountains have the advantage of being cooler (I'm a penguin, I like it cold), but the fact is, while I don't exactly believe in astrology, I am a water sign and it manifests quite frequently.  I love the water (shut your goddamn mouth, mornblade ).  You can tell by how I swim -- I can swim above water for the most part when I really need to, but when I really need to book, I will swim just under the surface, breaking for breath and staying just out of reach.  Playing in the water usually sees me doing loops, somersaults, or whatever, all underwater.  It would just be nice if I had a better beach body.
