Nothing Seems Right In Cars....

The ChicagoCon has a new guest on the list.

the deLorean from Back To The Future.

Yes, they actually list it as a guest.  Now THAT'S an agent!

This "car" thing mostly gets a "meh" out of me.  I mean, I know cars are iconic and most guys love cars.  I just never got into them.  Remember, my dream car is a 1960 deSoto Adventurer.  Most guys will pick a Ferarri or something like that.

Cars and comics make odd bedfellows.  I was at the ChicagoCon when the "Spawnmobile", a funny car styled like Todd McFarlane's character, debuted.  A guy self-publishing a comic called Pigeonman, The Bird Brain aped it with his Pigeonmobile, which I believe was the same make, model, and year as the Deathcoaster.  San Diego is about to get underway, and Ecto 1 (from Ghostbusters) and Black Beauty (from Green Hornet) are being brought in.

So, we Chicagoans get the deLorean.

Sorry, but there is only one pop culture car that would make me squee.  Well, three.  The second is the jet car from Buckaroo Banzai.  I hear it runs on pure awesome.  The third is the Tux Racer.  But the first is the General Lee.

So, let's put it to a vote.  Which would you rather have your picture taken with?

Poll #1595375 Pop Quiz!

Which car would you rather have a picture of yourself in the driver's seat of?

I choose the Pikamobile!

And if you haven't seen it in person, take a drive down Cicero Ave between 87th and 83th. It's on display at a dealer over there.

I saw the movie Batmobile, plus the 60's Batmobile at a museum and a convention...

I also saw Yvonne DeCarlo at a convention. Less than inspiring. She was pretty snotty. Now, Noel Neill? What a sweetheart. Onliest "celeb" I have bought a $20 glossy photo for...ever.

If you get a chance to meet Tyler Mane (X-Men, Monk), I highly recommend it. The guy is a total ham. Kids would pose for pictures with him and he go out of his way to give them a dynamic pose. Also, he's like Angus from Phantasm -- when he's just sitting around, you think he's a regular guy and you might even not recognize him. But bring out a camera and ask him to do his act, and he's like WHOOSH! Totally different person. Kinda shocking to see it in front of your own eyes.

My own celebrity encounters are kind of small. Lou Ferrigno acts like he'd rather be somewhere else, scrawling his name and not doing much more. By way of constrast, George Lowe, from Space Ghost Coast To Coast? If there was one iota of open space on whatever you asked him to sign, he put something there, from snack tips to giving Space Ghost a David Letterman gap in his teeth. He actually remembered me from one year to the next, asking me how the writing was going.

BTW, I also met Jodi Benson.

...just sayin'....

She was the voice of Tula on Pirates Of Dark Water. She was also Aquagirl on Batman Beyond and Barbie in the Toy Story movies. She's actually done quite a bit of voice work for Disney.

I prefer the OUTATIME Delorean, but I'd prefer the TARDIS over that any day. Besides, the 60's Batmobile AND the DeLorean were at C2E2... too late Wizard, ya been trumped.

Now, to be photographed with "The Demon" from Death Race 2000... that's a car I would pay to sit in.

And if they want to go with iconic cars, I know for a fact that somewhere in Illinois there is a 1973 Ford Falcon XB that has been modded to match the Mad Max Pursuit Special perfectly.
