CrossGen Wired

I've said before that being rejected by certain comic companies was one of the best things that could have happened to me.  Not being accepted into the fold with DreamWave, CrossGen, and various others was a blessing in disguise.  CrossGen in particular.  On the one hand, they were willing to experiment with things like digital media and such.  However, the owner was a nutball, and the company eventually collapsed under late payments, rampant debt, and eventual bankruptcy.  I think I'd be a lot balder than I am now had I got on there.  Be that as it may, they did do some very solid comics that appealed to readers, not just comic book fans.

Well, the first effects of Disney's buying Marvel are happening.  Disney bought the CrossGen assets.  And at San Diego, Marvel showed the sigil insignia for CrossGen.  Looks like they'll be starting up.  I bet Mark Waid is pissed.  And Chuck Dixon, too.

(NOTE:  for those asking about Malibu's Ultraverse that Marvel bought from Malibu, no.  Will never happen.  Posting something to a blog counts as publishing it, so I can't tell you what really happened behind the scenes.  There are others far more willing to risk a lawsuit, and if you know how to sift through what they write and familiarize yourself with Malibu's history, you will eventually learn the truth.  Suffice it to say, it's not that Marvel won't publish the Ultraverse, they are incapable of publishing the Ultraverse.  It had nothing to do with buying the Ultraverse to shut it down or to gain Malibu's digital printing tech and staff instead of growing their own.  And there's a reason Dave Olbrich has kept such a low profile since the sale.)

Will they follow the original stories?  And will the new crews maintain the feel that was so critical to the books following?  We'll soon find out.
