It's So Hard Not To Celebrate

M$ is readying SP2 for Office 2007.

It will include support for ODF.

Now, I don't know if this will be true ODF support or ODF with M$ extentions (like with their C++ compiler), but here you go.

M$ has caved and is paying attention to ODF.

Nothing personal, but don't celebrate just yet. Remember, we have to see if their ODF's will truly be compatible with others.

A lot of governments are adopting ODF, and the Guardian in England recently dumped their 1 000 Office licenses in favor of OOo. M$ is being forced to do this because their "value adding features" resulting in casual vendor lock-in are no longer a selling point. M$ is kicking and screaming while doing this, so I wouldn't put it past them to dick with things just a little to make THEIR ODF better and incompatible with others.

In short, M$' stance can be summed up like this: "Damn the carrot!"
