Well, folks, the moment we've all been waiting for.  Here's the official new Supergirl costume, direct from DC themselves....

Hmm.  Okay.  I prefer the skirt myself (you can draw Supergirl with a skirt and not make it exploitative.  Having it longer than it currently is is a good start), but I can live with this.  Especially compared to some of the outfits she's sported over the years.  ying_ko_4  is a longtime DC nut, I'm quite sure he can back me up on this.

And there's the cynical view - so now artists can draw Supergirl's ass without the skirt getting in the way.  Yay feminism!

well, it keeps her warm from the waist up at least!

Is that supposed to be material, or some sort of body armor? If it's armor, maybe it's heated and her legs are bare to allow the excess to radiate out.

Or maybe that's giving them waaaaaaaaay too much credit. ;-)

Haha, I'd actually be really impressed if they had put as much thought into it as you had. I think they just dig drawin' some nude thighs so the half-assed feminist in me is gonna keep thinking she has heated armor from now on hehe.

I'm telling you, they could totally hire me and I'd be writing rings around half their staff....

She's had more costume changes than a Cher concert. This one leaves me with an abiding sense of 'Meh' It's not bad, it's not great, it just is...

"She's had more costume changes than a Cher concert."

I am totally stealing that. ;-)

I concur with the "meh" reaction. Granted, I didn't think there'd be a big dramatic change, seeing how iconic she is, but I look at this and just wonder why they bothered

That's called 'Creative Appropriation' Son...

And have you seen what they've done did to Superman? Took away his red shorts...and are starting Action all over at #1....

Yeah, I saw Supes. Specifically, I saw Perez's cover. Perez is my choice for Greatest Living Superhero Artist. And when he can't make Superman get anything other than a "hmph", that's a baaaaaad look for him. It looks so 90's. My first reaction was, "You know what that outfit needs? A belt with pouches. Maybe three belts with pouches."

And not only did they take away the red shorts, he looks like he's wearing some kind of armor. Since when does a nigh-invulnerable (grin) hero need armor? Of course, if it's not armor, then it just reaffirms what a horrible design it is.

I know Jim Lee is a super-de-duper popular artist, but I just don't like when he creates costumes. Between the popped collars (Supergirl looks more like she's wearing a cloak than a cape. I want to color her outfit black and say she's the new Shadow) and the puffiness and the kneepads....

It's ok..

That does seem to be the primary reaction. Sort of like, "Well, it could have been a whole lot worse than that."

That is true. I do like the boots though. ^_^

I agree about the boots. I've always found it amusing when you look at comic book costumes and wonder how they can either stay in place (no one ever adjusts anything, not even their glasses) or how they can hide them. I even did a gag in Quantum Redshift where Bridge asks Rose how she is hiding her cape and skirt under her top and pants.

"... "Yo, it's a leotard with long sleeves!"

Ahaha, I was thinking this when I saw the picture too, like the hell?? Then I remember back in the 80s that I actually owned a long sleeve body suit (snapped at the crotch!) and I kind of wept quietly to myself for a few minutes.

Don't worry about weeping, we're all friends here. ;-)

We all make questionable style choices in our lives. The leisure suit. The Nehru jacket. Parachute pants (one of the kids who teased me in junior high had several pairs and everyone thought he was the coolest kid for about a school year. You have no idea how much I was hoping he'd try giving me shit at our reunion last year). Hammer pants. Wearing pacifiers around your neck.

A long sleeve body suit, huh? I don't care if it snapped at the crotch, I want to know if it was a day glow color or not!
