Cloudburst Status Report -- Weekend #8

You guys might want to check this out through the LiveJournal page instead of the newsreaders.  We got a pic, and we got a video, as well.

Well, Cloudburst has officially gone gold.  First up is the box art that I've been working on.

Looks rather smart, don't you think?  And please notice the order of the represented OS'es on the spine and on the back cover.  LINUX RULZ!!!!1!

Next thing I did, I uploaded a video of the actual gameplay.  So now, I have a YouTube channel.  I called it "PeterGProjects" in hopes that I could put different projects I was working on, not only self-distributed like Cloudburst, but maybe some comic stuff, and maybe some prototypes and other such nonsense.  Something tells me I'll be adding more to the channel before too long.  Here's the video of the gameplay for the first three levels....

The files have been zipped together and can now be bought from Lulu.  This is just to make sure there's a trail before the ChicagoCon.  "Can you prove your game was released?"  "Yeah!  Right here!"

I also calmed down a bit after the idea to refine the game hit me last Thursday.  Here's the thing -- I was going to put extra clouds drifting by, which could be shot down and help recover the water level.  However, as I thought about it, the vibe seemed too similar to Olive Wars, an old DOS game that I still play once in a while.  So I would need to revise quite a bit to make it different.

So the game is done.  All that's left now is to wait for the wheel to stop spinning....

I've subscribed to your YouTube channel. How about adding a gameplay vid for Lightning Strike as well, seeing as how you also sell that one on Lulu.

Also, in your vid description you need to add a link to the sales page for the individual game. You know, a "buy game here" link.

I was already thinking of that. I just need to review the TOS for YouTube to make sure I can do that. YouTube can be pretty nasty when they want to be, complete with one guy who was a pedophile who could get his videos left alone but bounce anyone who bitched about him (the only explanation is he's tight with one of the site admins). There's an old Polish proverb that says, "It doesn't do to leave a live dragon out of your plans if you happen to live near one."

A vid for Lightning Strike would be good and would certainly help sell it. The game is too short to make a demo version. The scripting engine allows you to create nagware (you have sixty minutes to play the game and decide if you want it), but it also fingerprints the machine and means people have to buy a per seat license. This violates my sense of Fair Use, and as long as it's my decision, I want to keep that in mind. I already have a gameplay video of Biff's Adventure I'll be uploading sometime, and I would love to include other projects as well.

Long story short -- one step ahead of you. ;-)
