The Register recently ran a story about how M$ was going to ship Windoze in Europe without IE. Many of us suspected they were just going to deactivate IE, but it would still be there (Windoze is built on IE, after all). There is no way, with the release date around the corner, that M$ would rewrite all that code just to extract IE. Then, M$ decided they wouldn't remove it, but would let user choose their browser. Once again, they wouldn't rewrite all that code, then rewrite it again just to include IE.
Lewis Mettler, an excellent legal analyst (I think he's an attorney, but I'm not sure), writes the lamlaw.com web site, which chronicles M$' dealings from a legal standpoint. He responded to El Reg's article, explaining what they got wrong of the facts and how claiming to do something just to get money amounts to fraud.
El Reg censored his comment.
Fuck you, El Reg. I'm never reading you again. Have fun with your corporate masters.
