Dan Vado, head of Slave Labor Graphics, has announced they are no longer doing floppies. Their new business model is digital comics in installments, and then collect them in trades afterwards. This figures, SLG's submissions guidelines warns that the floppy market is shrinking and they are more likely to consider trades and/or digital than a mini or continuing series.
Longtime readers know I have nothing but love for Vado and Slave Labor and will continue to buy and support their books. But I don't like digital. And I feel sorry for Vado that he has to go this route. Vado loves comics, and I know this decision has to bother him. But he's just doing what he has to to survive in this hostile market. Clearly, the readers aren't there for floppies if he's doing this.
I truly hope the DCnU really does being in thousands of new readers. We need all we can get.
