Starry Eyed Surprise

As I've mentioned, I'm not a fan of Lady Gaga.  It's not that I hate her or anything, it's not like I want her to go away.  She's not like Britney Spears (presenting herself in a completely debased way that offends me) or Kim Kardashian (making something completely generic and expecting it to sell just because it's her).  She just hasn't done anything I particularly like (other than bragging to the world her moniker was inspired by Queen.  I love Queen, so she automatically gets love from me for that), so I simply shrug and move on.  Gaga's act just seems to me like a warmed over version of 80's groups like Company B and Missing Persons (note to clionona</lj>:  check out Words by Missing Persons.  Awesome song).

So, like I said, given the option of listening to Lady Gaga, I prefer other female performers with attitude.  Company B.  Salt N Peppa.  Missing Persons.  Betty White.

Wait.  Hit the rewind.  Betty White?

Yes.  Betty White.  She's 89 years old and is treated with love and respect instead of being dismissed as too old.  Folks, the woman is having the time of her life.  She gets to do COMEDY.  And she has the skill to make it WORK (that is remarkable.  There's a LOT of people out there who think they're funny but don't have the comic sensibilities to make the material shine.  I'm looking at you, Cameron Diaz).  She does calendars.  She does photo shoots where she's surrounded by beefcake.  People hang on whatever she's doing.  I wish we could all be that age and when we say, we're doing something, people don't go, "You?".  Instead, they go, "Tell me moar!"

White can now add "rapper" to her list.  British techno musician Luciana (a.k.a. Lucina Caporaso) did a song called "I'm Still Hot," a rather generic guido-beat club song.  Well, someone got the bright idea to bring Betty White in to duet on it (probably with the thought, "There's no way on God's green Earth she could be worse than Federline").  So the Lifeline Project (an insurance company White is affiliated with) had it remixed with White dropping mad science, and a portion of the proceeds going to the Los Angeles Zoo (White is a longtime animal lover).  They've shot a music video that will be released on October 11, with White sitting on a golden throne and surrounded by shirtless male models.

But don't take my word for it.  Here's the audio of a lucky duck who not only does what she loves, but gets paid to do it.  How can anyone not love her?

YOU'RE a child of the 80's?!? I thought you were, like, a decade younger than me!

I was born in 1975. Was dancing on top of the jukebox in the bar my mother worked at by 1978. [Photographic evidence of this exists.] Had my own portable radio that I took with me everywhere by 1980. :D
