And Furthermore -- The Reasoning For The Season

I've gotten a few emails and PM's asking me about my The Reasoning For The Season post, asking the same question -- If Jesus was conceived on December 24th, why don't we celebrate Christmas on the 24th instead of the 25th?

Now, I am going to answer this question.  Why?  Because the testosterone is making me.  Given how wrong I was and the massive schooling my teacher gave me, I feel the need to flash a little ass.

The reason is simple -- in those days, the setting of the sun marked the end of the day, not 12 midnight, because they had no way to measure it other than control burn candles.  Jesus was conceived that night, after the sun set, so as far as the culture was concerned, it WAS the 25th that it happened.

Ah, yes.  I feel so much more superior now....
