Rich Johnston at Bleeding Cool is a huge Doctor Who nut. And apparently, he's been calling in favors and using brownie points to get more info on the Doctor Who/Star Trek The Next Generation crossover. He has dug up surprisingly little. There's a lot of people keeping this under lock and key to prevent spoilers. Seriously, the CIA could learn a thing or two about keeping secrets from these guys. But he has gotten a few things, and here's the biggest piece, the answer to the question everyone is waiting for.
The villains of the piece will be both the Cybermen and the Borg.
To tell you the truth, I had a feeling that was what was going to happen. The Cybermen are like precursors to the Borg, only their initial motivation was simply survival, hence the reason they roboticized themselves. Since then? Here's what Charles Skaggs said it would be like:
The Cybermen: "You will become like us."
The Borg: "We will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own."
The Cybermen: "You motherfucking ripoff sons-of-bitches..."
The series title is "Assimilation," and is being written by Scott and David Tipton (who have several Trek comics for IDW under their belt) and drawn by J.K. Woodward, who works on Fallen Angel for IDW. Anything more than that? Zippo.
I'm thinking of adding this to my pull list.
