My mom is starting to get phone solicitors calling on her cell phone. It is starting to drive her nuts. She asks them, politely but firmly, to please take her name off their list and never call her again. She might as well change her Caller ID to, "Thank you, sir, may I have another?"
The worst part is she forgets that my peer group delinquents and I are masters in combating phone solicitors, with our service records going back to the late 80's and early 90's (we don't considers ourselves black belts. Black belts are beneath us, we play above the rim). She mentioned these calls to me, and I scoffed at her polite request to be removed from the list. She didn't like my reaction and asked what other options she had.
So, when you folks have your cell phones on, and you get a phone solicitor trying to sell you timeshares or some bullshit...DO WHAT I DO...
The few unlucky sots who tried that with me heard me say, Let me explain something to you. This is a Pay As You Go cell phone. It costs me $1 per day of use and 10 cents a minute for any calls, outgoing or incoming. Your little pitch is costing me money. Please connect me with your supervisor so I know where to send the bill.
Most of them just hang up. One did connect me and I received a check for $1.50 about a week and a half later. But all of them removed me from their call lists and I never heard back from them again.
I am expecting everyone to use this knowledge responsibly. Thank you, and God bless. Now give 'em Hell.
