If I'm Considered A Narcissist, What Does That Make These People?

What is with the air of entitlement lately?

First up, you have tennis player Serena Williams having a meltdown on the tennis court and saying she doesn't deserve to have people criticizing her for threatening the line judge with grievous bodily harm.  (Congratulations on being the first woman tennis player and the first black tennis player to act like a cut rate John McEnroe.  And it happened at Arthur Ashe Stadium, too.  How progressive.)

Then, on Sunday night, Kanye West pulls focus again.  Taylor Swift won an MTV award (I don't know what for, I haven't watched MTV since Daria went off the air).  I know Swift is from American Idol (another show I don't watch), and she seems like a swell kid (she's 19).  She does country music, so for her to get an MTV award is actually pretty impressive.  In the middle of her speech, Kanye West, who they say was drinking Hennessey all night (yup, they're blaming the booze), climbed up on stage, took the mic from Swift, and said, "Yo, Taylor! I, I’m really happy for you, I’m-a let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time! One of the best videos of all time!"  While part of the crowd applauded, the boos grew exponentially.  Kanye pointed to Beyonce.  The camera cut to her just in time to catch her OMGWTF reaction.  As the crowd turned uglier, Kanye shrugged and gave the mic back to Swift and went back to his seat.  Swift looked like a bomb blew up in her face, standing there in stunned silence for ten full seconds.  And then, her time to speak was over so she couldn't fire back, let alone finish her speech.  Swift supposedly made it backstage before bursting into tears (give the kid a break, she'd been humiliated not just on national television, but no doubt knew this would be talked about by enough people that the whole friggin' world would know about it).

West was still defending his actions on his blog in a post that got removed kinda suspicious-like.  "I’m sooooo sorry to taylor swift and her fans and her mom. I spoke to her mother right after and she said the same thing my mother would’ve said. She is very talented! I like the lyrics about being a cheerleader and she’s in the bleachers! …………………… i’m in the wrong for going on stage and taking away from her moment!……………. beyonce’s video was the best of this decade! I’m sorry to my fans if I let you guys down! I’m sorry to my friends at mtv. I will apologize to taylor 2mrw. welcome to the real world! everybody wanna booooo me but i’m a fan of real pop culture! No disrespect but we watchin’ the show at the crib right now cause … well you know! i’m still happy for taylor! Boooyaaawwww! you are very very talented! I gave my awards to outkast when they deserved it over me… that’s what it is!! i’m not crazy yall, i’m just real. Sorry for that! I really feel bad for taylor and i’m sincerely sorry! Much respect!!”  So, he means much respect, unless it has to do with videos, then he's not being disrespectful, just honest, but he didn't mean any disrespect....

He continues to basically write like he's a misunderstood victim and he's some wild rebel.  The replacement post said, "I feel like Ben Stiller in “Meet the Parents” when he messed up everything and Robert De Niro asked him to leave… That was Taylor’s moment and I had no right in any way to take it from her. I am truly sorry."

Kanye is an argument for IRL five second delays.  Who can forget Mike Meyers' and Chris Tucker's reactions to "George Bush doesn't care about black people"?  It wasn't long ago that Kanye acknowledged he has a bit of an ego problem after Trey Parker and Matt Stone handed him his ass on South Park.  I simply figured Kanye was mad, but knew that, if he tried talking smack about Parker and Stone, they'd make the crime fit the punishment.  Looks like I pegged that one.

To say things went downhill from there is somewhat accurate.  Puff Daddy was introducing nominees for male videos, and when he read Kanye's name, the crowd booed.  Puff looked around in mock surprise and asked, "What happened?"  The crowd around Kanye supposedly got so riled that security had to escort him out of the building (probably to console Hannah Montana for Radiohead not wanting to meet her).  Beyonce got on stage to accept an award, but had the show handlers bring Swift out to let her finish her speech instead.  I know Beyonce has a diva reputation, but you have to admit -- that was some class.

Online, it was chaos.  Pink, a singer I don't usually like, posted on Twitter, "Kanye West is the biggest piece of shit on earth.  Quote me."  Gladly.  Preach, sister, preach!  Kelly Clarkson wrote in a message to Kanye "It's absolutely fascinating how much I don't like you."  I've been there, girl, you'll get used to it.  Swift is also trying to be a class act, refusing to say anything about the incident after the initial shock wore off because she didn't want to stir up trouble and she still enjoyed her night.

Parker and Stone had said that they thought Hollywood would be full of cool celebrities, and it turned out that they estimated 90% of them were douchebags.  Kind of makes me glad I'm stuck in the Midwest instead of the coast.
