When I wrote two days ago, I mentioned that twenty states had filed petitions to peacefully secede from the Union because what's the point of living with other people if they don't bend to your whims? This stupidity is par for the course, with similar symbolic actions taken in 2004 and 2008.
As I write this, all fifty states have filed petitions to secede from the Union.
So, what are we looking at? As of this moment, seven states have acquired enough signatures to require a response from Obama. Florida is the only state that went to Obama that has crossed this threshold. The other six are North Carolina, Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, Texas, and Louisiana. Collectively, 700,000 people (I suspect many of them didn't actually vote) have gone nuts. Erik Erickson is the founder of RedState, and he has finally done something I like -- call bullshit. "We here at RedState are American citizens. We have no plans to secede from the union. If you do, good luck with that, but this is not the place for you," it says on the RedState web site.
Texas is in the lead with 99,000 signatures, prompting Governor Rick Perry to declare, "Gov. Perry believes in the greatness of our Union and nothing should be done to change it. But he also shares the frustrations many Americans have with our federal government."
Can the situation get any more nuts? Why, yes, it can! People in the city of Austin, the notorious liberal compound of the state, have filed to secede from the state of Texas while remaining in the US, basically becoming their own state.
But wait! There's more! There's ANOTHER petition on the White House web site, calling for anyone who signs a secession petition to have their citizenship revoked and to be "peacefully deported."
They said only an idiot would vote for Obama.
Looks like idiots have a lot more options than that.
