So, in keeping with my tradition of confidentiality, I'm withholding the identity of the person I'm talking about. This individual has had family members comment that, because of the political ideas he espouses (ideas which I find perfectly reasonable even when I don't agree with them), he is a "conspiracy theorist."
His family doesn't know shit about conspiracy theorists.
Dude? This one's on me.
A university professor is claiming that the Sandy Hook shooting never happened, it's a media fabrication engineered by President Obama to promote his gun control agenda.
Now THAT'S a conspiracy theorist!
The professor in question is one James Tracy from Florida Atlantic University. Apparently, he already has a reputation as a conspiracy theorist. In fact, he teaches a course there called "Culture Of Conspiracy." He's also a former union leader (well, that would certainly affirm first-hand experience with conspiracies). He has a blog called memoryholeblog.com, and he has constructed a timeline that finds holes in the sequence of events.
Mr. Tracy? You're on Art Bell. What would you like to say?
"As documents relating to the Sandy Hook shooting continue to be assessed and interpreted by independent researchers, there is a growing awareness that the media coverage of the massacre of 26 children and adults was intended primarily for public consumption to further larger political ends...While is sounds like an outrageous claim, one is left to inquire whether the Sandy Hook shooting ever took place -- at least in the way law enforcement authorities and the nation's news media have described....Overall, I'm saying the public needs more information to assess what took place. We don't have that. And when the media and public don't have that, various sorts of ideas can arise."
Five stars, would laugh again.
FAU is pulling a "DO NOT WANT." FAU media director Lisa Metcalf had this to say to the press -- "James Tracy does not speak for the university. The website on which his post appeared is not affiliated with FAU in any way." In other words, you're on your own, buddy.
I'm used to stupidity stemming from people trying to use national tragedy to bolster debates that shouldn't be happening at that moment. This is a whole special kind of stupid.
