Ann Crispin was made of awesome.
Her first published work was the Star Trek novel Yesterday's Son. She wound up writing six books total. She also wrote the Han Solo Trilogy that was set prior to A New Hope. She wrote Pirates Of The Caribbean -- The Price Of Freedom. She created her own series, Starbridge, that ran for seven books.
But that's not what impressed me the most about her. Crispin was a member of the Science Fiction Writers Of America, and within its ranks, she founded and chaired Writer Beware, which tracked industry scams, fraud, and other shady dealings. This entire committee was all volunteer, which means people with a passion to do right, and her doing it for no other reason than it was the right thing to do.
Rest well, Crispin. And thank you for looking out for others. We need more in the world like you.
