Oh, yeah. It's the stupid people who end up costing the rest of us the most money, anyway.

When I was in high school, I wanted to divide America in two. In one place, preferably right by the ocean, would be a state where anyone who was actively involved in things could live tax free, and the rest of the country got the repressive laws and high taxes. Rule #1 -- if you didn't vote, you couldn't live there, you had to go with the rest. But chances are, they wouldn't even notice they were being screwed, they'd just see, say, their taxes going up, bitch up a storm, and pay them anyway.

I figured, based on the number of people I knew who not only didn't vote but didn't follow the news (I was actually made fun of by the other high schoolers for reading both Chicago papers every day), I figured an area the size of Virginia and West Virginia would do, and still have plenty of room. Oh, and everyone in this little utopia would get a Barcalounger.

I recognize that is a rather arrogant dream and rather cold hearted as well. But once in a while, I have to admit the idea holds a lot of appeal.

Hm, Virginia ... nice climate compared to northern Indiana.

Yeah, maybe it is a cold hearted attitude, but after awhile people who not only vote, but actually learn about the candidates and issues first, get *really* tired of carrying everyone else.
