Just got off the phone with my parents. Who had great news!
"Your sister might be getting out of prison this April! Isn't that great?!?"
The long and the short of it is they are considering sending her to a halfway house, possibly around April. She would be there for about a year. It would be at least three months before she could leave the house for work release or to go home on weekends. She also gets some bling, an ankle monitor.
I love how I spent over 42 years trying to prove my loyalty and dependability to my parents, and they don't trust me. Meanwhile, my sister gets all the hope and praise and "Oh, she sounds so together! She's been dry for almost 150 days! She's been using for so long! She was even using when she married her husband!"
Yeah, that explains why she went through with it.
My mom laughed at that. But she and dad are still wondering about the silence and the subtle rage even I could hear in my voice. Or maybe they weren't wondering, because they did mention that I should be the big brother and support and encourage her.
She gets all the breaks. Every. Last. One.
