What are your feelings towards smoking? What rights do you think smokers and non-smokers should have?
Many many years ago, I felt differently about this. I'm not sure if it's age or just that smoking has been so marginalized that the chances of running into it is slim. But my feelings at the moment are:
1) I don't smoke, I don't care to, that's good enough for me
2) People who do smoke, as long as they are being considerate, I don't mind
3) There are places where it is assumed you are an adult and smoking should not only be allowed, but expected (e.g. a bar). Therefore, if you don't want to be around smokers, you shouldn't be in those places.
My primary concern is that smoking is not about health for some people, but about being able to push others around. After all, there is proof that smoking is bad, so smokers can't possibly argue against it. Saying you should just quit overlooks that this is not something people just do (otherwise, there'd be a 100% success rate for quitters), but an addiction.
I'm just saying, no I don't like smoking, but have a heart, folks.
